Pharmacies

Compounding pharmacies licensed to mail compounded injections to Georgians

Only pharmacies with a Georgia State Board of Pharmacy permit may mail you compounded semaglutide. A pharmacy in another state needs a Georgia nonresident pharmacy permit and a valid license where it operates; its pharmacist in charge must be licensed in their own state. No Georgia inspection is needed, but one dispensing compounds for doctors’ office use must send a home-state inspection report under two years old.

State law

Getting care online

Georgia requires care by Georgia-licensed practitioners. Your history must be available to them, and they must have examined you in person, act at another provider’s request, or be able to examine you with technology as good as an in-person exam. You must get their name, credentials and emergency instructions, and records are required.

Does insurance cover semaglutide in Georgia in 2026?

For weight loss alone, rarely. Georgia Medicaid doesn’t cover Wegovy for weight loss; it covers semaglutide as Ozempic or Rybelsus, for diabetes. Georgia’s state employee plan covers GLP-1s for weight loss only with criteria. With Medicare Part D, the GLP-1 Bridge can bring the Wegovy pen or pill to $50 a month.

Georgia Medicaid: not for weight loss

No. Georgia Medicaid’s pharmacy manual excludes drugs used for weight loss, and Wegovy isn’t on the drug list effective Oct. 1, 2026. How many units is your semaglutide dose?

It depends on your vial’s strength. Here are the Wegovy label’s dose steps at two example strengths, with the math to check your own.

Semaglutide dose steps from the Wegovy label, with the volume and units on a U-100 syringe at two example strengths, 2.5 mg/mL and 5 mg/mL; your vial’s label decides
WeeksWeekly doseAt 2.5 mg/mLAt 5 mg/mL
1 to 40.25 mg0.1 mL (10 units)0.05 mL (5 units)
5 to 80.5 mg0.2 mL (20 units)0.1 mL (10 units)
9 to 121 mg0.4 mL (40 units)0.2 mL (20 units)
13 to 161.7 mg0.68 mL (68 units)0.34 mL (34 units)
17 onward2.4 mg0.96 mL (96 units)0.48 mL (48 units)

The math: mL = dose ÷ strength (mg per mL), and units = mL × 100. At 2.5 mg/mL, 1 mg is 1 ÷ 2.5 = 0.4 mL, or 40 units. At 5 mg/mL, the same 1 mg is 0.2 mL, or 20 units.

Both strengths are examples only. The same dose is a different number of units at a different strength, so read the strength on your own vial’s label. Your prescription sets your dose and schedule, which may differ from these label steps. Every step: the semaglutide dosage chart.

NexLife keeps one price at every dose with care included ($119 a month on the 12-month plan or $139 month to month), PreventiveMD has the lowest month-to-month compounded price we found ($119), Ondra Health the lowest 12-month price ($96 a month, paid upfront), and NovoCare Pharmacy sells FDA-approved Wegovy, from $149 a month for the pill. NexLife publishes this guide.

Does Georgia Medicaid cover Wegovy for weight loss?

No. Georgia Medicaid’s pharmacy manual excludes drugs used for weight loss, and Wegovy isn’t on the Preferred Drug List effective Oct. 1, 2026. Semaglutide is covered as Ozempic, a preferred diabetes drug that needs prior authorization, or Rybelsus. If you have heart disease or MASH, ask your plan whether Wegovy can be approved for it.

Does the Georgia State Health Benefit Plan cover Wegovy?

It covers weight-loss medications with prior authorization, but the plan pages we read don’t name the drugs, so ask whether Wegovy is on your list. Since Oct. 1, 2026, your own doctor can prescribe, and the weight program is optional. Coverage continues in 2027. Teachers and public school employees are on this plan too.

Is compounded semaglutide legal in Georgia?

Yes, for an individual patient with a prescription, from a pharmacy licensed or permitted by Georgia. The FDA declared the semaglutide injection shortage over on Feb. 21, 2025, so routine copies of Wegovy are no longer allowed. A pharmacy may compound it when your prescriber documents a significant difference for you. It isn’t FDA-approved.

Can a nurse practitioner prescribe semaglutide in Georgia?

Yes, under a nurse protocol agreement with a delegating physician, who must practice in Georgia or within 50 miles of where you are, for in-person and telehealth care alike. Physician assistants prescribe under a supervising physician’s board-approved job description. The physician must hold an active Georgia license.

Can I get semaglutide prescribed online in Georgia?

Yes, from a Georgia-licensed practitioner. Georgia’s rule requires your history to be available and an exam condition to be met, such as technology that allows an exam equal or superior to an in-person one. You must get the practitioner’s name, credentials and emergency follow-up instructions, and they must make diligent efforts to have you seen in person at least yearly.

Can a pharmacy in another state ship semaglutide to Georgia?

Yes, with a Georgia nonresident pharmacy permit. It must hold a valid license where it operates, and its pharmacist in charge must be licensed in their own state. Georgia doesn’t require its own inspection of out-of-state pharmacies. Check the pharmacy on the Board of Pharmacy’s license verification before you order.

How much does semaglutide cost in Georgia without insurance?

Online, compounded semaglutide runs $119 to $299 a month, all in (checked Nov. 1, 2026). The Wegovy pen at NovoCare Pharmacy is $199 for each of a new patient’s first two fills (through Dec. 31, 2026), then $349 a month ($399 at 7.2 mg); the Wegovy pill is $149 to $299. NexLife: $119 a month on the 12-month plan or $139 month to month.

How do I keep semaglutide cold in a Georgia summer?

Refrigerate it as soon as it arrives, and never freeze it. Before the cap comes off, a Wegovy pen may sit at 46°F to 86°F for up to 28 days, but in summer 2026 Savannah’s airport hit 86°F or more on 111 of 122 days and reached 100°F four times. Compounded vials follow their pharmacy label.

Does Medicare cover Wegovy in Georgia?

Yes, through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, if you qualify. Since July 1, 2026, eligible Part D enrollees pay $50 a month for Wegovy (injection or tablet), Foundayo or the Zepbound KwikPen, with Medicare approval, through Dec. 31, 2027. You need a qualifying BMI, and people with type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea or fatty liver disease ask their drug plan instead.

Important safety information

Compounded tirzepatide and semaglutide are not FDA-approved, and the FDA hasn’t reviewed them for safety, effectiveness or quality. A provider prescribes them only when they offer a significant difference for you compared with an FDA-approved product.

Both medicines may cause thyroid tumors, including cancer: don’t use either if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Read the full safety information

In studies with rodents, both medicines caused thyroid tumors; it isn’t known whether they cause them in people. Tell your provider if you notice a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing or shortness of breath. Serious side effects can include inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), gallbladder problems, low blood sugar (especially with insulin or sulfonylureas), kidney problems from dehydration, severe stomach problems, serious allergic reactions, vision changes in people with type 2 diabetes, and a faster heart rate. Tell your care team before any surgery or procedure that uses anesthesia or deep sedation. Don’t combine either medicine with other GLP-1 medicines.

Tirzepatide can make birth control pills less effective: switch to a non-oral method, or add a barrier method such as condoms, for 4 weeks after you start and for 4 weeks after each dose increase. Both medicines may harm an unborn baby. Semaglutide should be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy. Tell your provider right away if you’re pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding.

This is a summary, not the complete safety information. Read the full Prescribing Information for FDA-approved tirzepatide (Zepbound) and semaglutide (Wegovy), and talk with your provider. You can report side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 or fda.gov/medwatch.
