Pharmacies
Compounding pharmacies licensed to mail compounded injections to Mainers
Only pharmacies licensed by the Maine Board of Pharmacy may mail you compounded tirzepatide. A pharmacy outside Maine that mails prescriptions to Maine patients needs a Maine mail order prescription pharmacy license from the Board of Pharmacy. It costs $200 and renews every year on Dec. 31, and the Board sets the criteria for each license class by rule.

Not your price or how you’re seen: care is online, and NexLife’s price is the same anywhere in Maine. What changes is the heat at your door. Local health numbers differ too: CDC estimates adult obesity at 26.7% in Cumberland County and 40.0% in Aroostook County, against 32.7% statewide.

How do you keep tirzepatide cool in a Maine summer?
Store compounded tirzepatide the way your prescription label says, usually in the fridge at 36°F to 46°F, and get the box inside fast. Zepbound’s 21-day room-temperature rule, up to 86°F, doesn’t apply to compounded vials. In a disaster, if your pharmacy has your prescription on file and can’t reach your prescriber, a Maine pharmacist may give an emergency supply of a long-term medicine, up to 30 days, no more than twice in 12 months. Can you get tirzepatide online in Maine?
Yes. Maine lets licensed providers treat you by telehealth, under the rules below. Your prescriber needs a Maine license, and a pharmacy outside Maine needs a Maine license to ship to you.
Getting care online
A physician treating you in Maine needs a Maine license. Licensees may provide telehealth within their scope of practice, and every law, rule and standard of practice that applies in person applies online too. A physician licensed only elsewhere can register just to consult for a Maine clinician, who keeps authority over your care.

A Maine license
Your prescriber needs a Maine license. Until Jan. 1, 2027, MDs and DOs are licensed under separate laws; then one Maine Board of Medicine licenses both. A 2017 law put Maine in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, which offers qualifying physicians an expedited license.

Does insurance cover tirzepatide in Maine in 2026?
For weight loss alone, rarely. MaineCare doesn’t cover weight-loss drugs; it can approve Zepbound for sleep apnea. Maine’s state employee plan covers GLP-1s for weight loss only with criteria. With Medicare Part D, the GLP-1 Bridge can bring Zepbound KwikPens to $50 a month.
MaineCare: not for weight loss
Not for weight loss: MaineCare’s drug list, effective Oct. 1, 2026, says weight-loss drugs aren’t covered. Since April 4, 2025, Zepbound can be approved with prior authorization for adults with a BMI of 30 or more and moderate-to-severe sleep apnea when CPAP fails or can’t be tolerated. It isn’t approved for people with diabetes.

State of Maine Health Plan: only with criteria
Yes, with a condition. Since July 1, 2026, members taking GLP-1 drugs for weight loss must join the plan’s no-cost nutrition program and get the prescription from its providers. After Oct. 30, 2026, weight-loss GLP-1 prescriptions filled outside that program aren’t covered.

Medicare: $50 through the GLP-1 Bridge
Eligible Part D enrollees can get the Zepbound KwikPen, the Wegovy pen and pill, or Foundayo for $50 a month, with prior authorization, from July 1, 2026, to Dec. 31, 2027. Zepbound vials aren’t included. Who qualifies
TRICARE: Prime and Select still cover weight-loss medications in certain circumstances; TRICARE For Life has excluded them since Aug. 31, 2025.

Job-based and marketplace plans: it depends on your plan
It depends on your plan. In 2025, a committee voted down LD 627, which would have required state-regulated plans to cover GLP-1 drugs. Ask whether Zepbound is covered for your diagnosis, what prior authorization requires, and whether the state regulates your plan.
If your plan says no. After your plan’s internal appeals, you can ask Maine’s Bureau of Insurance for external review within 12 months of the final denial. There’s no filing fee: the insurer pays, and the decision binds it. It reviews denials of otherwise covered care, not plan exclusions. Can you bring tirzepatide back from Canada?
Not legally, in most cases. Drugs bought in Canada are unapproved in the U.S., the FDA says, and importing unapproved drugs, for personal use or otherwise, violates federal law. Zepbound’s label allows no more than 86°F outside the fridge, for 21 days in all. A pharmacy that mails prescriptions into Maine from elsewhere needs a Maine mail order pharmacy license.

How many units is your tirzepatide dose?
It depends on your vial’s strength. Here are the doses on Zepbound’s label at one example strength, with the math to check your own.
| Dose | mL at 25 mg/mL | Units (U-100) | On the label |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.5 mg | 0.1 mL | 10 units | Starting dose, for 4 weeks |
| 5 mg | 0.2 mL | 20 units | A maintenance dose |
| 7.5 mg | 0.3 mL | 30 units | A step up |
| 10 mg | 0.4 mL | 40 units | A maintenance dose |
| 12.5 mg | 0.5 mL | 50 units | A step up |
| 15 mg | 0.6 mL | 60 units | The maximum, and a maintenance dose |
The math: mL = dose ÷ strength (mg per mL), and units = mL × 100. At 25 mg/mL, 10 mg is 10 ÷ 25 = 0.4 mL, or 40 units.
25 mg per mL is an example only: it’s the strength of the 15 mg multi-dose vial on Zepbound’s label (15 mg per 0.6 mL). Read the strength on your own vial’s label; your provider sets your dose, in steps at least 4 weeks apart. Every step: the tirzepatide dosage chart. Or enter your own vial’s strength in the tirzepatide dosage calculator.

Who are the best tirzepatide providers in Maine?
It depends on what you need. NexLife keeps one price at every dose with care included ($139 a month on the 12-month plan or $169 month to month), PreventiveMD has the lowest month-to-month compounded price we found ($139), Mochi Health offers obesity-medicine doctors, and LillyDirect sells FDA-approved Zepbound, $299 at the starting dose. NexLife publishes this guide.
Does MaineCare cover Zepbound for weight loss?
No. MaineCare’s drug list, effective Oct. 1, 2026, says weight-loss drugs aren’t covered. Zepbound can be approved with prior authorization for adults with a BMI of 30 or more and moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea, confirmed by a sleep study, when CPAP fails or can’t be tolerated. It isn’t approved for people with diabetes.
Does the State of Maine employee health plan cover GLP-1s for weight loss?
Yes, if you use the plan’s program. Since July 1, 2026, members taking GLP-1 drugs for weight loss must enroll in the plan’s no-cost nutrition program and get the prescription from its providers. After Oct. 30, 2026, weight-loss GLP-1 prescriptions filled outside that program aren’t covered, and members pay the full cost.
Is compounded tirzepatide legal in Maine?
Yes, for an individual patient with a prescription. The FDA declared the tirzepatide shortage over on Dec. 19, 2024, and a federal appeals court upheld that on Aug. 27, 2026, so routine copies stopped. A prescriber must document a significant difference for you. Compounded tirzepatide isn’t FDA-approved, and the pharmacy needs a Maine license.
Does my prescriber need a Maine license?
Yes. Maine law bars practicing medicine in the state, including prescribing, without a Maine license, and telehealth follows the same standards as in-person care. A physician licensed only elsewhere can register just to consult for a Maine clinician. Maine joined the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact by a 2017 law, which speeds licensing for qualifying physicians.
Can a pharmacy in another state ship tirzepatide to Maine?
Yes, if it holds a Maine license. A pharmacy outside Maine that mails prescriptions to Maine patients needs a mail order prescription pharmacy license from the Maine Board of Pharmacy, renewed every year by Dec. 31. You can look up a pharmacy’s license on the state’s online license search before you order.
Can nurse practitioners prescribe tirzepatide in Maine?
Yes. A certified nurse practitioner may prescribe under Maine Board of Nursing rules. For the first 24 months, a nurse practitioner practices under supervision or works for a clinic or hospital with a physician medical director. Physician associates with under 4,000 practice hours work under a collaborative agreement with a physician.
How do I keep tirzepatide cold in a Maine summer?
Put it in the fridge as soon as it arrives. Maine summers are mild, but in 2026 Sanford’s airport hit 86°F or more on 24 days and Portland’s on 14, both peaking at 96°F. Zepbound’s label allows no more than 86°F outside the fridge, for 21 days in all. Compounded vials follow their own pharmacy label.
How much does tirzepatide cost in Maine without insurance?
Online, compounded tirzepatide costs $139 to $399 a month, all in, median $237 (GLP-1 price index, checked Nov. 1, 2026). Zepbound at LillyDirect is $299 to $449 a month; $449 from 7.5 mg needs a refill within 45 days, otherwise $499 to $699. NexLife charges $139 a month on the 12-month plan or $169 month to month.
Where can I get tirzepatide in Portland, Maine?
You don’t need a clinic nearby. A Maine-licensed provider can treat you online, and a pharmacy licensed in Maine can ship to Portland, South Portland, Westbrook or anywhere in the state. If you go in person, check the pharmacy’s license first on the state’s online license search, and ask the prescriber for their Maine license number.

Important safety information
Compounded tirzepatide and semaglutide are not FDA-approved, and the FDA hasn’t reviewed them for safety, effectiveness or quality. A provider prescribes them only when they offer a significant difference for you compared with an FDA-approved product.
Both medicines may cause thyroid tumors, including cancer: don’t use either if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Read the full safety information
In studies with rodents, both medicines caused thyroid tumors; it isn’t known whether they cause them in people. Tell your provider if you notice a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing or shortness of breath. Serious side effects can include inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), gallbladder problems, low blood sugar (especially with insulin or sulfonylureas), kidney problems from dehydration, severe stomach problems, serious allergic reactions, vision changes in people with type 2 diabetes, and a faster heart rate. Tell your care team before any surgery or procedure that uses anesthesia or deep sedation. Don’t combine either medicine with other GLP-1 medicines.
Tirzepatide can make birth control pills less effective: switch to a non-oral method, or add a barrier method such as condoms, for 4 weeks after you start and for 4 weeks after each dose increase. Both medicines may harm an unborn baby. Semaglutide should be stopped at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy. Tell your provider right away if you’re pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding.
This is a summary, not the complete safety information. Read the full Prescribing Information for FDA-approved tirzepatide (Zepbound) and semaglutide (Wegovy), and talk with your provider. You can report side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 or fda.gov/medwatch.

How we checked. On Nov. 1, 2026, we read each program’s public pages (no quiz, account or checkout); on Nov. 2, 2026, we read Maine’s Medicaid, licensing, telehealth and pharmacy rules at their sources. The heat counts are ours, from NOAA’s daily station data at 8 weather stations.
How we make money. We earn revenue when people join NexLife, one of the programs here, so we name the catch for every option, ours included.
